Arlene R. Whaley, nee McClelland, 73, of New Athens, Ill., born April 24, 1925, in Central City, Marion County, Illinois, died Saturday Sept. 19, 1998, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Illinois. Mrs. Whaley was a retired clerk for the St. Louis South West Railroad. She was a member of the New Athens VFW Post 7710 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Harrison Rodgers, parents Robert B. and Ruby E. (nee Carter) McClelland, and sister, June McClelland, and two sons Ronald Dennis and Rodney Richard Rodgers.
Surviving are her husband Eugene Whaley of New Athens whom she married 1970, two sons; Ronald (Elizabeth) Rodgers of Lensburg, Gary (Brenda) Rodgers of Kansas, three stepsons - Eugene Whaley Jr of VA, Terry Whaley of OK, Larry (Patricia) Whaley of Columbia, Ill., and a step-daughter Linda Littrell of Perryville, Mo. Two sisters, Helen Mullins of Ariz., and Roberta Wallis of Ind., and a brother Robert (Faith) McClelland of Ariz., 22 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Burial at Oak Ridge Cem. New Athens Illinois. Rev. Les Mantonya officiating. A Heil Schuessler Funeral Home service.
